Trump aide quits as ex-wives claim abuse

After those images were published, Porter announced his resignation on Wednesday. As the allegations resurfaced Wednesday, Porter resigned. Of the five people pictured in it, none are still formally associated with Trump or the White House.

Porter's title understates his significance in the White House.

Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, Porter went to Harvard University with Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and a senior advisor to Trump. Both women had details of their troubled marriages to Porter as FBI investigators conducted a routine security background check on him.

His making bigoted remarks and his turning a blind eye toward domestic abuse certainly don't make me confident that he can set an example for others. Porter never received a permanent clearance. "I've lost count as to how many Trump appointees have been sidelined due to their past views or conduct".

The matter came to light when the Federal Bureau of Investigation contacted Porter's ex-wives while they were reviewing his security clearance.

All of the officials interviewed for this story requested anonymity to discuss a personnel and national security matter.

Calling the abuse allegations "serious and deeply troubling", Shah reiterated that Porter denied the allegations and that the "incidents took place long before he joined the White House". He had access to classified materials.

Porter's title of staff secretary belies the role's importance in any White House - but especially in Trump's. She alleged he punched her in the face during a trip to Florence in 2005 and provided photos showing her with a black eye.

Porter's former wives recounted physical, verbal and emotional abuse they say he subjected them to during their marriages.

In response to the mounting allegations, Trump said "you have to listen to him also" and seemed to suggest having a Democrat in the Senate was a worse outcome than electing an accused child molester.

Ramaphosa triumphed over Zuma's former wife, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, at last December's party elective conference. His presidency has been dominated by an economic slowdown, record unemployment and allegations of corruption.

He says photos published were taken almost 15 years ago and the "reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described".

After the Daily Mail, a British tabloid, first disclosed the women's abuse allegations this week and Porter's current relationship with White House communications director Hope Hicks, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kelly defended him.

Holderness did not respond to attempts to contact her by telephone and email.

But Wednesday evening, Kelly issued a new statement.

When the Daily Mail called for comment before publishing its story on Tuesday, Hicks helped defend Porter - sources told CNN that she worked with other aides to craft a supportive statement that was put out in chief of staff John Kelly's name.

In a chaotic White House where eye-popping headlines are the order of the day, Porter has largely stayed out of the media spotlight - until now.

"He is a friend, a confidante and a trusted professional", Kelly said.
