Except six out of the total 102 legislators of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh, all others favoured severing ties with the BJP-led NDA for meting out "injustice" to Andhra Pradesh. "The first thing we will do when we come to power in 2019 is give the state special category status".

The YSR Congress, along with 2,000 Andhrites studying and working in Delhi and other cities, also held a dharna at Parliament Street here to demand the special status for their state.

He also ruled out granting tax incentives to industries as is being given to already existing special category states like north-east stats and Himalayan states.

"I am confident that if we stand together we will convince the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that what is due to the people of Andhra Pradesh should be given to them", he added.

"After Monday, our party MPs will continue to protest in parliament", said YSRCP MLA G. Srikanth Reddy.

Apart from the YSRCP, the centre will also face the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) which has also chose to continue its "fight" to ensure that all the promises made to AP during its bifurcation from Telangana in 2014 are fulfilled.

With the obvious rift between central and state governments, the opposition parties in the state including YSR Congress party, Congress and CPI (M), have been organizing agitations, rallies and so on across the state demanding special category status.

Last month too, he took to Twitter to endorse "the just demands of the people of Andhra Pradesh".

At an unscheduled appearance at a protest gathering here, Gandhi said the Congress, if voted to power in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, would accord the state the central government package as promised after Telangana was created out of an undivided Andhra.

This is not the first time the Congress leader took to social media to express his support for special category status for the state.
