Jordan Peele just became the first African American to win the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and everyone, everywhere has (naturally) lost their chill.

As a fan of the film Logan, I was definitely hoping to see them pull out the win for their Best Adapted Screenplay nod but it just wasn't meant to be; still great to see a Marvel film nominated for a screenplay though. "I want to dedicate this to all the people who raised my voice and let me make this movie".

It is a good thing Peele never quit since "Get Out" is actually one of - if not the best - horror movie for 2017 with both the critics and the audience agreeing in unison that the film was good.

He also noted that Whoopi Goldberg's acceptance speech for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 1990's Ghost inspired him to make movies. "So we have a lot of work to do to break out but I think the fact that this cry for justice has been heard is at the very least a step in the right direction". We had Spike, we had John Singleton, we had the Peebleses, we had the Hughes brothers, but they felt like the exception to the rule.

After the victor was announced, Peele got up and hugged his star, Daniel Kaluuya, who was nominated for Best Actor last night.

Director Jordan Peele nabbed an Oscar for his directorial debut of a dark satire of the African American experience and liberal white guilt.

"Get Out" - which was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Director - beat out "The Big Sick", "Lady Bird", "The Shape of Water", and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" to take the prize.

Earlier, "A Fantastic Woman" earned the Oscar for best foreign language film, giving Chile its first win.

Robert Lopez, who won a second Oscar with wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez on Sunday, is already part of a rare group of entertainers to achieve the EGOT - an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. And to everybody who went and saw this movie.
