McEntee was sacked and escorted out of the White House Monday, CNN reported, due to difficulties obtaining a permanent security clearance, an issue that has led to the departure of several White House staffers.

While it's unclear why McEntee was sacked, the Journal reported that there may have been something in McEntee's background check. He will begin in his new position in the next few days.

And it highlights the extent to which the re-election campaign has already become a landing pad for former Trump associates who have left the White House but remain loyal to the President. Now, only social media director Mr Scavino remains.

Johnny McEntee was sacked because he is now under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for serious financial crimes, a source familiar with his firing tells CNN.

Senior administration officals told the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that McEntee was escorted out of the White House on Monday.

McEntee's firing follows the departure of Greenwich native Hope Hicks, the White House communications director who, like McEntee, was one of Trump's longest-serving aides.

His exit follows another original Trump campaign aide.
