The newly discovered communications between Veselnitskaya and the Russian government indicate that the lawyer held a level of influence within the Kremlin, undercutting her long-held insistence that she was merely a private attorney.

When Donald Trump Jr. took an opposition research meeting in June 2016, he thought he was meeting with a private Russian lawyer who could provide damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

"In this particular case, I think she thinks by calling herself an informant is less damning than when the truth finally comes out about this whole thing, which is that she's a full-on agent", he said. "Since 2013, I have been actively communicating with the office of the Russian prosecutor general", according to Newsweek.

An organization established by an exiled Russian tycoon says it has obtained emails showing collaboration between Russian government officials and the Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump Jr.in 2016.

The Dossier organization said Friday it had been sent a series of emails showing Veselnitskaya set out strategies for the Kremlin's response to a US request for assistance in a money-laundering case involving her client.

The emails the Dossier organisation said it was sent suggest Natalia Veselnitskaya worked closely with a top official in Russia's prosecutor-general's office to fend off a United States fraud case against one of her clients.

Bill Browder, a Vladimir Putin critic who pursued the sanctions law after the suspicious death of his lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, in a Russian prison, told CNN's Erin Burnett on Friday that Veselnitskaya's statement in an interview with NBC News that she was a Russian informant is "sort of only halfway there". Veselnitskaya admitted to being hacked and told Russian news agency Interfax that people are trying to discredit her, and that she will be reporting the hack to Russian authorities.

Surging US production, which hit 10.59 million bpd last week, has encouraged record-high US exports. Under the agreement, Iran suspended its nuclear program in return for the lifting of sanctions.

Veselnitskaya has denied having connections to the Kremlin since her meeting with then-candidate Donald Trump's son, son-in-law and campaign chairman.

Her previous statements delivered to the Senate Judiciary Committee in November a year ago seemingly denied the exact connections now coming to light.

Donald Trump Jr. has said the June 2016 meeting with Veselnitskaya included discussion of the Magnitsky Act sanctions.

"I operate independently of any governmental bodies", she told the committee.

The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that Russian Federation tried to sway the 2016 election in Trump's favor.

Trump Jr. initially claimed the sit-down in his father's Fifth Avenue tower was about Russian adoptions, before tweeting out emails that showed he was aware Russians were offering dirt on Clinton. She had denied any such connection since the discovery of the meeting in July of past year.
