ARSENE WENGER has backed Mikel Arteta to succeed him at Arsenal after saying he has "all the qualities" to become their next manager.

Arteta, who signed for Arsenal in 2011 from Everton, joined Pep Guardiola's technical crew at Manchester City last season.

It's claimed that Guardiola is impressed with the way Arteta puts across his message to the players and their is a strong belief among City's backroom team that the 36-year-old is ready to take the job at Arsenal. I left a lot of experience behind me, people who were with me like (assistant manager) Steve Bould and (coach) Jens Lehmann too'.

"I am optimistic because now we've cleared the path to bring somebody new in, they will be able to fix the issues that Wenger has failed to see", Nicholas told Sky Sports.

"Overall he has the qualities but I don't want to influence that publicly".

"If he stays I will be the happiest guy in the world and if he decides to move because he has this offer, this option, I will not say you do not have to go".
