Pakistan won't allow a USA diplomat to leave the country after he was involved in a fatal traffic crash, a Pakistani intelligence official.

On Saturday, Hall was prevented from boarding a U.S. plane, the latest twist in a dispute that has raised anti-American sentiment in Pakistan, a security ally that is increasingly at odds with the United States on major issues.

Colonel Joseph Emanuel Hall, Defence and Air attache at the US Embassy in Pakistan had ran down three persons in Daman-e-Koh, north of Islamabad, ratcheting up the ongoing visa/diplomatic rift between the two countries.

Pakistani officials have blocked a U.S. military attache from leaving the country.

The US embassy and Pakistan's foreign office declined to comment.

U.S. military attache Col. Joseph Emanuel Hall is accused of running a red light and killing a motorcyclist on April 7 in Islamabad.

The FIA didn't allow Joseph to leave the country until the officials get orders from the federal government.

Sources said that a special aircraft had arrived at the Noor Khan Airbase earlier today to fly back the United States diplomat to Washington but the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) obtained his passport for clearance.

The issue has further strained the ties between Pakistan and the USA which are already at odds over the issue of providing safe havens to the Taliban and the Haqqani network terror groups in Afghanistan.

The Trump administration has also sought to strengthen ties with India, Pakistan's bitter rival.

'This is a development that could well develop into a full-blown crisis for relations if it's not resolved soon, ' said South Asia expert at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington Michael Kugelman. However, Pakistani immigration officials refused to allow Col Hall from boarding the plane, compelling him to return to the embassy.

Idris Baig, the father of man killed in the accident, said in an interview that he was satisfied with the current proceedings. "We do not discuss details of diplomatic conversations", the spokeswoman said.

'My son will never come back and we will consult with our relatives and village community before negotiating the agreement.
