The All-Star second baseman exited the series finale against the Tigers at Comerica Park in the top of the third inning after being struck on the top of his right hand by an 88 miles per hour fastball from lefty Blaine Hardy.

Detroits Blaine Hardy allowed two runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings in his first major league start after 167 relief appearances.

The Mariners have not yet announced a timetable for Cano's recovery, though a fracture bone in the hand will likely cost him several weeks.

He was attended to by a trainer and left the game, replaced in the lineup by Andrew Romine.

Cano was later shown in the dugout with his hand wrapped in a cast.

Cano is batting.287 with four home runs and 23 RBIs this season for Seattle. He hit a three-run homer in Seattle's win Saturday night.
