Trump's Early North Korea Wins Face Ultimate Test in Kim Talks

U.S. secretary of state Mike Pompeo has offered economic help to impoverished North Korea if it gives up its nuclear weapons, as the two countries prepare for an historic summit between Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

North Korean state-run media on Thursday also reported in detail North Korean leader Kim's meeting with Pompeo the previous day in a highly conciliatory tone toward the United States, which it has often portrayed as a hostile enemy in state propaganda.

The president's news comes hours after he welcomed home three detained Americans at Joint Base Andrews, just outside Washington, D.C., less than 24 hours after they were released by North Korea.

The leaders of South Korea and North Korea met last month and agreed on the goals of peace and complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
