Average worker can't afford 2-bedroom apartment anywhere in US

The average renter in OH earns $13.32 an hour, almost $2 less than the hourly wage needed to afford a modest two-bedroom rental unit. In Seattle, a worker making the mean wage would have to put in 49 hours for a one-bedroom and 60 hours for a two-bedroom. The minimum wage in Arkansas is $8.50 an hour.

The report's authors adhere to the standard that no household should spend more than 30 percent of its gross income on housing costs, and they assume that each household would be paid for 40-hour workweeks for 52 weeks a year. The state's minimum wage is now set at $8.50 an hour. In major metropolitan areas, it gets worse.
