FIFA president Gianni Infantino celebrated what he described as the "best World Cup" ever on Friday, thanks to the quality of football and organisation in Russian Federation.

Besides praising Russian Federation for a successful tournament, Infantino can expect questions about the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the $25 billion Club World Cup and the role for the top female FIFA official, Fatma Sasoura, who has rarely been heard from during the tournament.

"If we feel that it's not in favour of us or of football, we won't go for it", Al Khater said at the opening of a Qatari hospitality house in Moscow's Gorky Park.

There were several questions about the wisdom of moving to a 48-team World Cup, which is scheduled to happen in 2026 in North America, but Infantino has been trying to move forward to 2022 in Qatar, and queries related to Europe's continued dominance on the pitch. But that format was rejected in January 2017 by FIFA's ruling council when it agreed to expand the World Cup.

"VAR is not changing football, VAR is cleaning football, making football more honest, more transparent", he said.

During Russia 2018 photographic agency Getty Images published a photo gallery of "the hottest fans at the World Cup" featuring exclusively young women.

"Working with our stakeholders, we have introduced thousands of football fans to Qatar and given them key details about the kind of tournament we will host in just over four years' time - namely one that is compact, hospitable to all and family-friendly".

Infantino sees participation in a World Cup as a powerful tool to help grow the sport in developing countries.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Infantino also said the tournament could feature more than 32 teams, but a decision has not been made.

The World Cup has reached its final phase with the two finalists, Croatia and France, preparing to play the final game on July 15.

"Since a couple of years I was saying this would be the best World Cup ever".

United States film star Will Smith, set to perform at Sunday's closing ceremony with fellow American singer Nicky Jam and Kosovar singer Era Istrefi, described the World Cup as a "rare, very big moment of global harmony".

At the climax of the ceremony, Putin handed an official World Cup ball to Infantino, who then handed it on to the emir.

Nadal then squandered three break points in the 15th game before saving a match point in the 16th with a pitch-perfect drop shot. If Wimbledon's 2018 men's championship is remembered for anything, it may be its role in bringing about fifth-set tiebreaks.
