Singer Ariana Grande has disabled comments on her Instagram following the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller of a rumoured overdose, after fans of the rapper began to blame her for his untimely death.

Los Angeles police said they responded to a report of a deceased person at a home on the same block where Miller is listed as a resident, and had turned the case over to the coroner's office.

Rapper Mac Miller has died aged just 26, it was reported today.

The website stated that a male friend called 911 from the San Fernando Valley house and that authorities pronounced Mac dead at the scene. "At this time, an autopsy is pending and a cause of death has not been determined". On his debut album Blue Slide Park, which went to number one on the U.S. sales chart, he introduced himself: "I ain't no hipster / But girl I can make your hips stir". His latest album Swimming was released on August 3.

According to reports, Miller had still been feeling the emotional impact of his breakup from longtime girlfriend Ariana Grande, as well as her subsequent whirlwind engagement to "SNL" star Pete Davidson shortly after they split. On Thursday night Mac posted a video of a record player with his song "So it Goes" playing in the background.

Mac Miller has been open about his trouble with substance abuse.

Fellow hip hop stars Chance The Rapper, J Cole and Snoop Dogg paid tribute to Miller on Twitter.
