LOS ANGELES-After years of discussing its 5G plans, and months of buildup and hype, Verizon finally took the wraps off of its first 5G commercial launch.

Verizon's 5G home broadband service, Verizon 5G Home, launches in select areas on october 1 at a cost of $50 for Verizon Wireless customers and $70 for customers who don't use Verizon Wireless.

How much will it cost? The monthly cost of $70 (including taxes and fees) will carry a $20 discount for customers with qualifying Verizon cellular plans. Verizon promises speeds of almost 1 gigabit, and you can order service starting this Thursday (September 13) in select markets. There are "no data caps" either.

Verizon 5G Home service will be available in certain zip codes from September 13, 2018, 8 am onwards.

Verizon Chief Executive Officer Hans Vestberg is expected to give investors more details about the company's 5G plans during a presentation Thursday at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference in NY.

5G is considered the next evolution in mobile technology that will create wireless networks faster and more powerful than the current 4G or LTE networks. True to its word, Verizon declared to roll out their 5G services in broadband form starting onwards October 1 for all their customers.

"We appreciate the partnership of network equipment makers, device manufacturers, software developers and chip makers in reaching this critical milestone", said Hans Vestberg, who joined Verizon after serving Ericsson as CEO. "We will deliver a revolutionary 5G experience that will change how people live, work and play". Since just recently those specifications were finalized, Verizon will not use them for its new home 5G, it will instead use a proprietary standard and just the Verizon equipment is able to send and or receive the signal.
