Mega Millions jackpot surges to $868 million after no winning ticket claimed

No one won the record-setting $667 million Mega Millions jackpot, so the grand prize has soared more than $200 million for the next drawing.

A Midlands lottery player is carrying around a $50,000 ticket after purchasing a Mega Millions ticket, according to a statement from the S.C. Education Lottery.

The second-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history was won in March 2012.

While the advertised jackpot is $868 million the actual cash prize would be $494.5 million unless someone is patient enough to collect the winnings over 29 years with the annuity option.
