Rosmah to face several money laundering charges, MACC

It was earlier reported by Reuters that Rosmah was called to the MACC headquarters on Wednesday for questioning in a 1MDB-related investigation.

The MACC in a statement yesterday said the arrest was made at 3.20pm at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.

Investigations into the alleged looting of state fund 1MDB by an audacious worldwide fraud ring have already seen her husband Najib Razak hit with more than two dozen charges including corruption and money laundering.

"This was Mahathir's instruction to ensure that Rosmah and Najib will be taken to courts together tomorrow".

Malaysians have been outraged by the seizure of around $275 million worth of cash and goods, including a vast collection of Hermes Birkin and other designer handbags, jewelry and watches from properties linked to the couple.

Former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak and his wife were questioned separately on October 3 by investigators over a multi-billion-dollar scandal that brought down his government.

Rosmah Mansor smiled at reporters but didn't speak as she was escorted into the agency's building.

She was accompanied by her lawyers Datuk K. Kumaraendran and Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent.

Najib himself has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of money laundering, corruption, abuse of power and criminal breach of trust in the scandal and is to face trial next year.

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Najib, 64, arrived at the anti-money laundering and anti-terror financing division of the police at 9.40am to give a statement in connection with a money-laundering probe, media said.

New Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad reopened investigations into 1MDB that were suppressed under Najib's rule.

Corruption accusations have dogged Mr Najib for years, and came to a head in 2015, when the Wall Street Journal reported that almost US$700 million in 1MDB funds was diverted to his personal bank account.
