US turns up heat on Pakistan as India marks Mumbai attacks anniversary

During four days of terror in Mumbai in the final week of November 2008, Islamist terrorists belonging to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group carried out 12 coordinated shooting and bombing attacks across four days, murdering 166 people and wounding more than 300. "We will never let terrorists win, or even come close to winning!" he said. The US has declared a $5 million reward for any information which would facilitate the arrest and conviction of India's culprits.

He called on Pakistan to implement sanctions against those responsible and said the US was offering a new $5 million reward and was committed to seeing those responsible face justice.

India welcomed the statement by the United States calling on Pakistan to uphold their UN Security Council obligations to implement sanctions against the terrorists responsible for the 26/11, including the Lashkar-e-Taiba and its affiliates.

The United Nations 1267 has designated LeT to the Consolidated UN Security Council Sanctions List.

Indian officials accused Pakistan's intelligence agency of working with the militant group to mastermind the attack - an allegation Islamabad denied.

The State Department's Rewards for Justice programme will offer the reward, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement ahead of the 10th anniversary of the attacks on November 26.
