Reuters reported that Foxconn now makes Xiaomi phones in India, while Apple already uses Taiwanese Wistron Corporation's facilities in Bengaluru to manufacturer the company's lower-end iPhone SE and iPhone 6S devices. According to Reuters, Foxconn will be assembling its top-end iPhones - iPhone X series - in India as early as 2019.
Though the Chennai plant has been shut since 2015, Foxconn's Sri City facility on the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border has been manufacturing handsets for Xiaomi, Nokia and Gionee.
The investment could create up to 25,000 jobs, he added. This price may go down to $1000 Dollars once Foxconn starts making iPhones in India.
The decision to have iPhones manufactured in India may have something to do with the on-going trade war between the United States and China, according to sources close to Reuters.
Until now, Apple has only assembled the lower-cost SE and 6S models in India through Wistron Corp's (緯創) local unit in the Bengaluru technology hub.
The Hindu newspaper first reported on December 24 that the Foxconn plant would begin manufacturing various models of the iPhone.

CIRP notes that while impressive, the 32 percent share of the iPhone XR is lower than what the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus managed to achieve in the first month of their availability (39 percent) a year ago.
It's not clear if Apple is planning to move some of its production from countries including China.
