Reuters reported that Foxconn now makes Xiaomi phones in India, while Apple already uses Taiwanese Wistron Corporation's facilities in Bengaluru to manufacturer the company's lower-end iPhone SE and iPhone 6S devices. The investment could create up to 25,000 jobs, he added. This price may go down to $1000 Dollars once Foxconn starts making iPhones in India.

The decision to have iPhones manufactured in India may have something to do with the on-going trade war between the United States and China, according to sources close to Reuters.

Until now, Apple has only assembled the lower-cost SE and 6S models in India through Wistron Corp's (緯創) local unit in the Bengaluru technology hub.

The Hindu newspaper first reported on December 24 that the Foxconn plant would begin manufacturing various models of the iPhone.

Still, it could potentially get Foxconn to make the older iPhone X version in India where it sells cheaper models in a bid to get a bigger share of the world's fastest growing major mobile phone market.

CIRP notes that while impressive, the 32 percent share of the iPhone XR is lower than what the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus managed to achieve in the first month of their availability (39 percent) a year ago.
