Browns reportedly pick coordinator Freddie Kitchens as next coach

Kitchens will be the 11th head coach - counting interim coaches - since the Browns returned to Cleveland in 1999.

Earlier today, after news broke that the Browns were hiring Freddie Kitchens to take over the head coaching job full-time, Les Levine, who was filling in as a host on 92.3 The Fan's Baskin and Phelps, explained that the Browns meant to hire ex-Packer's head coach Mike McCarthy with the stipulation that he keep Kitchens on his staff as offensive coordinator. She says signs are pointing to that outcomes.

Kitchens was one of several candidates to interview for the job, and in recent days it became clear that he was an inner-circle candidate along with Minnesota Vikings interim offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski. His play-calling energized Mayfield, who finished with a rookie record 27 touchdown passes, with 19 of those coming when Kitchens was calling the plays.

The Browns will be looking for Kitchens to turn around their fortunes going forward and are hoping that by making him their head coach, he can continue to develop Mayfield into top quarterback. The Browns instead went with a younger, hungry, first-time head coach, and tried to get ahead of the curve on getting the "next big thing".

R. Kelly’s Former Manager Reportedly Has A Warrant Issued For His Arrest
A Cook County State's Attorney representative said officials are "in the process of reviewing and following up on these calls". Prosecutors had argued a videotape showed him engaged in graphic sex acts with a girl as young as 13.

As the team's success grew, Kitchens never campaigned to be Cleveland's coach but leading a team was always a goal. Cleveland has been a desert for stability at the head coach and quarterback positions over the last two decades, but with one draft pick in 2018 and one coaching hire in 2019, that all may change.

The Broncos also hired Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, ESPN reported.
