When DeGeneres tweeted about the interview on Thursday, fans had mixed feelings to the news: some commended DeGeneres for giving Hart a platform on which to speak while others argued Hart did not deserve the chance.

Ellen DeGeneres is facing criticism after clips of her upcoming interview with Kevin Hart surfaced on social media, apparently showing her support for the actor.

Hart didn't make any promises to accept the job, but did promise to reconsider the offer.

Later, she tweeted, "I believe in forgiveness. And I believe in @KevinHart4real".

Hart, though, said that he's not ready to forgive people for their "attack to end me", that is, bringing up old tweets.

In the clips, Hart said he recognized that his comments on Twitter were risky and said he had apologized and grown in the 10 years since he made them. "I think they were secretly hoping that you would come back", she added. Whatever we can do. "Don't pay attention to them", DeGeneres said.

During Hart's appearance on The Ellen Show, Hart spoke about outside forces who were seeking to hurt his career. The Academy asked Hart to apologize but Hart declined, saying he'd already done so numerous times, and stepped down from hosting the Oscars. In this case I just said I wanted to walk away because it was a conversation that was just going to continue and continue and continue.

The Oscars will take place in Los Angeles on 24 February 2019. "And he should host the Oscars'".

"I really want you to host the Oscars", DeGeneres, a former Oscars host herself, told Hart in response. This wasn't an accident. "To go through 40,000 tweets to get back to 2008?" That's a fear. Keep in mind, I'm not homophobic ...

"I had to address it when I did Get Hard promo with Will Ferrell, because of my joke that I had about my son". If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify or explain their past, then do you. I said, 'Kevin's on.

But many are angry that she appears to have let Hart off the hook, despite the homophobic gags, which were made during a comedy special made in 2010.

"What we're going to get to see on stage with you hosting the Oscars is sophistication, class, hilarity and you grow as a person", she said. "So why set yourself up for failure?"

But certain members of the LGBTQ community and its allies feel disappointed that DeGeneres would vie for Hart even in the midst of an apology.

"You have grown, you have apologized", DeGeneres said. So now the slander on my name is all over.

The US comedian and actor pulled out of hosting the awards in December, amid controversy over homophobic tweets he posted nearly a decade ago.
